But you forgot the ultimate strength test! Jumping on it!!!
Wow Mathias, you make it look like picking up an IKEA bed would be more of a hassle than building this one yourself! cool video!
Bas Feijen HA! That’s funny. True… but funny.
Well don’t forget about the tool investment versus ready to go one time payment not putting your idea down but if you love the trades be prepared to spend money on plenty of tools.
Also for anyone wondering what to do with their life having trouble in their career or job consider being a Carpenter, a Plumber , a General contractor once you’ve learned enough trust me it will change your life and give you a community.
no screws in the slat support rails? I dunno after a solid night of love making in not sure just glue would be up to the task

I agree. I kept waiting for him to put in screws, I guess it’s ok with weight distribution , but why not screw it
Screws really won’t add a whole lot–by the time they would come into play the wood would be torn to bits and the screws with it. A few well placed dowels or a tenon would be a much better solution, but probably overkill (the tenon would be, anyway).
You are laying on top of the bed and force will go down through the posts with equal distribution through the slats. The biggest problem will be horizontal movement and lateral movement but looking at the thickness of the posts I doubt it will really trouble it.
who’s gonna win, the power of glue or the power of love?
Very nice! Looks great! and….. inches!!
Very nice build. (I laughed out loud at the Pocket Hole jab.) 🙂
Matthias is one of the best wood workers on youtub. I always enjoy his project videos, but I really think it!s time to change his you tub name to “Pocket Hole” or “English Units”! Pocket Hole I love your sense of humor!
Good thinking with slanting the back of the legs against the wall.
Simple and sexy
@jimmydiresta Simple and sexy time
I feel the same way about Matthias
Where’s your mattress sponsorship Matthias ? ! Haha
i can’t tell you how many times my planer has unplugged itself, lol! great video, as usual.
Whenever he pounds the mallet it sounds like the scooby doo running sound.

Great video. Incredibly clever thoughtfulness cutting out the portion of the legs for the headboard!
When you said “you could just use pocket holes” I almost spit out my beer!
Does this just look fun to anyone else?
me too
Not really, unless you have space ! I’m finishing one king size, and I have no space to assemble it.. have to bring it inside the house all the time.
@MrMeasaftw wtf that is one tall bed
Yup. It’s better than porn.
I have the need to make a single bed to custom size for 1 room. The only problem in ALL the videos I’ve watched on YT they all have professional tools. 95% of us at best have probably got a handsaw and a screwdriver but there aren’t many, if any at all, videos on how to do such a project with these basic tools. I wish I had a planer, table saw, table router but in the UK you’d barely get that in a garage.
Whew close call with the cord on the planer there!
0:42 !
I swear I heard Nicholas cage yelling ‘kill me’ as the cord was bring pulled
