Easy to build custom display cabinets, woodworking, carpentry

In this video I show my process for building a pair of display cabinets. I use a few simple techniques to build high quality, easy to construct cabinetry. I think the end result is a sleek, modern pair of cabinets that will look good for many years. As a side benefit this method could be easily adjusted to build cabinets for TVs, audio gear, bookcases, bowling trophies, or a large collection of Beanie Babies.

Awesome build Mike! I was like number 70, had to ruin it for everyone. Loved the tip about covering up the pocket holes!

    Mike Farrington - October 19, 2019

Thank you. The pocket hole trick is a good one.

Doin it myself - October 19, 2019

In all my years of tiring knots and handling lines, I’ve never seen the mighty spring clamp knot until today at 1:25

    Mike Farrington - October 19, 2019

Ha! You saw it here first, the spring clamp knot.

Time for the shop apprentice to get a raise. Great build, love the “mighty spring clamp”

    Mike Farrington - October 22, 2019

    I agree.

Steve Allen - October 20, 2019

Well done, would be interested to see your estimating process for projects like this. Do you just figure material and estimate time?

    Mike Farrington - October 20, 2019

Thank you. You pretty much nailed it, materials and an estimate for labor, then add them together.

Skippy Lippy - October 20, 2019

“They sit with a quiet confidence”.
Pure poety.
My life is complete once again – I watched another Farrington video! ^5

Josh Bennett - October 21, 2019

Hey Mike use a “Taught Line Hitch” on that drawing bow. You can slide the Knot and it will stay put. Also supper easy to tie!

    Mike Farrington - October 21, 2019

That is really good advice. Thank you.

miltogk - October 21, 2019

Beautiful cabinets. Great idea for hiding the pocket holes! Cant believe I never thought to do that.

    Mike Farrington - October 22, 2019

Thank you. Thats a cool trick for sure.

Wicked Makers - October 21, 2019

These came out great, man! Really like the “stand up your workpiece with a screw clamp” trick! Definitely going to employ that one.

    Mike Farrington - October 22, 2019

Thank you very much. Yup, that is a great trick.

JD Anderson - October 21, 2019

Are you in the Springs or Denver?
Awesome videos, some of my favorites out of all the woodworking channels!!

    Mike Farrington - October 22, 2019

I’m in the south east corner of the Denver area. I’m about 50 minutes north of the springs. Thank you.

    JD Anderson - October 22, 2019

    @Mike Farrington Sweet… I’m in the Springs.
While I’m amazed with your project videos, nothing compares to seeing that you have replied to every single comment!! Well done!!

    Mike Farrington - October 23, 2019

@JD Anderson Thank you. I feel a commitment to respond to as many comments as possible. If someone takes the time to write, its part of my job to respond. I want people to feel included and that I’m accessible.

AlisGuitars - November 5, 2019

Fantastic! What was behind the material choice of veneered MDF vs. solid wood?

    Mike Farrington - November 6, 2019

Cost mostly. This was a project that had a specific budget that I had to work within. Plus, that would be a lot of solid wood, I really don’t like using more wood than I need to.
