Restoring Industrial Furniture – Machine Shop Build Ep. 10

Restoring ultra rusty old steel cabinets for the lathe equipment and bolts and nuts by wire brushing the rust off, cleaning with a solvent and painting with air compressor powered spray paint gun. Most problematic was cleaning out the cabinets from the stuff that was in there and later putting everything back in and organized in the machine shop. Decision after decision… But painting projects gives a weird satisfaction – this project might start a trend…

Matej Šoky - April 6, 2019

great job if I was doing it I would probably go all out and put a colour on it with even clear coat and make it look like those super expensive tool cabinets from US 😀 😀

    Herman from german - April 6, 2019

You could buy one of those with the money you will spend for color xd

    Matej Šoky - April 6, 2019

@Herman from german It doesnt need to be that perfect 😀

    Donn DIY - April 7, 2019

I just needed the restoring/refurbishing of the cabinets to be cheap and effective. That did the job. 😀

Northwestprepper411 - April 6, 2019

Thanks for sharing and allowing us to follow you. And by the way it looks great from the U.S.A

    Donn DIY - April 7, 2019

Thanks for watching. I appreciate it. 😉

Dan Kolar - April 6, 2019

Young people. Just watching you is enough to make an old man tired. Enjoyed the video nevertheless. Thank you for sharing.

    Donn DIY - April 7, 2019

I feel tired too. But I enjoy watching other people work on YouTube too. 😉

James A. Walters - April 6, 2019

Them swing-out shelves are freaking awesome, I have never seen anything like it 🙂

    Larry Greenwich - April 6, 2019

James A. Walters was thinking the same thing!

    Donn DIY - April 7, 2019

With the small lathe I bought that I showed in one of the vids in this series I also bought a “new” used work bench that has these exact same swing out shelves. So that’ll come in handy once I get it in place after the floor is poured in.

Andrew Browner - April 6, 2019

that second cabinet is extremely cool/ useful, would definetly be interested in a DIY build of a similar design after your garage is done.. or maybe just some close up picks of the hinge design for the drawers so i can attempt a build.. i expect a new one is in the 1500USD or more range if you can even find

    Donn DIY - April 7, 2019

The hinge is made out of a tube that has another tube in it. Each shelf has a short piece welded to it and all the shelves have plastic bushings between them so they’re quiet when in motion. And a smaller diameter tube runs all the way from the top to the bottom of the cabinet through those shelves and thus, the shelves can swivel. Really simple and effective design.

First shop rule: Everything has a spot. After using return it to it’s spot! Organisation is good.

    Donn DIY - April 7, 2019

That’s right. Although I’m kind of a slob when it comes to that and have a rather photographic memory when finding tools out of a heap of junk on the work table that has accumulated over several projects. But I’m going to change and try to keep everything organized in the future. It just feels better to be in the workshop when everything is in its place.

Vein1986 - April 6, 2019

Put LED strips under shelves so it will be brightenr inside, esasier to find stuff and manage 🙂

Craig Voisin - April 6, 2019

I like that second cabinet with the swing out shelves , very cool

    Tanasi Tim - April 6, 2019

I’ve never seen one of those before. Neat.

    Donn DIY - April 7, 2019

These are very practical, but makes the cabinet really heavy. We struggled quite a bit when heaving the cabinet outside and back in when it was finished. 😀

Tom's Dreamshop Worx - April 6, 2019

good job! Really love the design of the second cabinet, with the pivoting shelves.

schmittie123 - April 7, 2019

We all deserve better paint

EscapeGoat - April 7, 2019

Brilliant as always. Can I suggest you just have the sped up audio instead of the backing track. Like DiResta does.

Bobby Tectalabyss - April 7, 2019

I have been watching since the sawmill build. Much respect Sir. From the mountains of Tennessee. Liked,Shared and added to Playlist.
All my best.

Da Os - August 27, 2019
